Campaigns
The Red Umbrella Project collaborates with the alumni of the Speak Up! Media Training to create awareness-raising projects, and also works on community-driven advocacy campaigns.
Here are the major campaigns we’ve done over the past several years:
- Protect, Don’t Prosecute: Advocacy campaign directed at the Suffolk Count (Long Island) Police Department and Attorney General, encouraging them to grant amnesty to sex workers while the Long Island serial killer remains at large. Launched April 2011.
- Nothing About Us Without Us: The Shared Goals of the Harm Reduction and Sex Worker Rights Movements: Resources designed to spark discussion and create inspiration for looking at the ways that peer-led groups providing support and services to sex workers in their communities can collaborate with harm reduction agencies. Launched August 2010.
- I Am A Sex Worker: Video public service announcement created at Speak Up! to express the very human dimensions of sex workers beyond their jobs. Launched in May 2009, with additional footage in 2011.
