Red Umbrella Project’s trainings and workshops are peer-led and designed to develop the advocacy, media, and creative skills and confidence of people in our communities.
- The Speak Up! Media Training Intensive Workshop was developed for people with experience in the sex trades, LGBQ people, and trans and gender-non-conforming people who want to speak publicly – in mainstream and community produced media – about their experiences and offer their political perspective on issues that affect their communities. It is a weekend long and offered twice a year.
- In our Advocacy Training, participants learn from a veteran staffer of the state legislature how bills become law, how to monitor bills as they make their way through the process, and how to talk to your elected representatives about your concerns. We offer day long skills workshops as well tw0-hour workshops that focus on the issue of No Condoms as Evidence.
- Our Memoir Writing Workshop is an eight-week long writing course for individuals with experience in the sex trades which is intended for both experienced and first-time writers and will cover the fundamentals of memoir writing. Workshop participants have the opportunity to showcase their work in a reading at the Red Umbrella Diaries and in an issue of our literary journal.
- In Improv Workshops, participants get creative and practice performance skills, while doing storytelling in front of an audience of their peers.
In addition to hosting and producing our own workshops throughout the year, we also do community workshops in collaboration with other groups, organizations, and agencies.
